About 2 years ago we had a french bulldog that we loved dearly. He suddenly went blind and then less than a year later he went deaf. It broke our hearts when we had to lay him down to his permanent rest. Low and behold we were up at Big Bear Lake and saw this dog with a "strange" strip of hair on its back. The wife new right there that she wanted to get a Ridgie. We searched high and low to find our first Ridgeback. Within 2 weeks of getting Siggy we were hooked on her personality, playfulness and "ownership". We wanted to get another. Within 2 months we had 3 young female Ridgies!! Early March 2019 we decided to purchase our boy (Sirgood) so our girls could have a boyfriend!
Even though we are new to Rhodesian Ridgeback breeding we are not amateur's. Previously Paula and I owned a CFA cattery called AusumRex Cats. We bred and raised Cornish Rex cats. Paula was into breeding and showing those beautiful cats and had a couple of champions. We had that cattery for 17 years when she finally made the decision to get out of the cat breeding business due to us relocating for my work. That was a very hard decision for her to make. We have had dogs for our entire married life together since we are both pet lovers.
Our Ridgies are not kept locked up outside or in outdoor pens. They are part of the family and have run of the house when they come in from playtime. I actually think they belief that they are the bosses and they allow us to be in their life lol.
